Arrived here for a preview/soft opening of the new Nanea Resort and stay for 5 nights with my Fiancee. Due to the fact that it was a resort and preview stay, my Gold benefits were not eligible.
Summary: Great resort with stunning rooms, excellent service/staff and easy access to the beach. Kids and family friendly. Beach is a mixed bag (up to your own taste) and the restaurant could use a little more work.
Long: The grounds of the resort was stunning with a lot of great details and touches to the common ground fixtures and furnitures making it overall a clean but not sterile modern look with a bit of traditional mixed in. We were put in a huge 2 bedroom suite with a fully functional kitchen. The main difference between the 2 bedrooms were the ensuite bathroom, with one featuring a standalone shower and gorgeous standalone bathtub in the middle of the room (as seen in many of the room pictures on the website). The other bathroom was smaller with a tub/shower combo.
The pool area was fantastic with plenty of places to sit and private pavillions you can rent out. Great place to watch the ocean and sunset. There is a separate kiddie pool area with a water slide and water guns that saw plenty of use.
We also dropped by the Family Center for coconut painting and the staff there were some of the most friendly and patient I have ever met, especially towards the children they were babysitting.
Beach access is near by and there is a 1mile boardwalk that along the coast that you can take by foot to near by resorts and a public beach park. The beach located by the resort is left up to your own taste, it is not the wide open beaches you are probably imaging but still beautiful on its own.
So why the 4 stars instead of the 5, simply because it was a preview stay and about 1/3 of the resort was still closed and under construction and I feel it would be unfair to give it a full score. Also, the Mauka Makai restaurant was good but not great. Fiancee and I got the porkchop and chicken for dinner and while seasoned perfectly, were both on the dry/overcooked side. That said, one of the accompanying dishes, the purple yam (or taro?) brulee was one of the highlights of the meal. Overall the price and quality of the meal didn't add up for us.
All in all, a great stay with some minor shortcomings that can be easily addressed.
The “Valley Isle,” is consistently voted Best Island by Condé Nast Traveler readers. Explore lush landscapes and relax along pristine beaches of this Hawaiian paradise.
