We checked into the Nanea on its opening day for an eight-night stay. It was a bit of a gamble since we booked with no pictures or reviews, but I'm so glad we did it because we had the vacation of a lifetime. We had a 2BR resort view, but it actually had a great view of the pool and the ocean beyond it. It was like a luxury apartment with a fully stocked kitchen, a lanai with table and chairs for meals al fresco and two bathrooms, including an amazing tub in the master suite. They still were working out a lot of kinks -- phones and communications didn't work great, the only elevator in our villa was down, the poolside service was very slow because of limited staff, construction was still going on, that kind of thing. But that's totally to be expected on the opening week, and every staff member we encountered was going above and beyond to make our stay wonderful, including the front desk, the concierge, food service, housekeeping and the towel/rental desk. The main pool was open and was heaven for my 5- and 7-year-olds -- a little slide and wade-in portion, splash pads and water sprayers. They were working on building another pool area more geared to adults with plunge pools, but they weren't ready yet. There also were nice grills for guest use and the beach was beautiful, with a protected coral reef about 10-20 feet off shore where you can snorkel. Snorkel gear and beach chairs are available to rent by the day or week. The Kids Club also was very cute and had wonderful staff -- they had to take the boys down to the sister property next door for most of the day because they were still working on their license. But my kids had a blast and asked to go back. We also used and loved the spa at the Westin next door, just a short walk down the boardwalk that runs along the beach. A shuttle runs to all the other Starwood properties a few minutes away down the beach, which was great for exploring. We ate most of our meals in the room -- there's a grocery store about a mile away, but the food we did eat at the restaurant was great. We rented a car and did a lot of outings around the island, but if you just wanted to stick to the pool and beach, you could do it without one and use the shuttle and cabs. We feel very lucky to have stayed here and would highly recommend the Nanea to anyone, but especially families.
The “Valley Isle,” is consistently voted Best Island by Condé Nast Traveler readers. Explore lush landscapes and relax along pristine beaches of this Hawaiian paradise.
